The Kamloops Children's Arts Festival is back for a 16th year, now with an added feature -- a Family Dance & Karaoke Party Friday, Sept. 18. At the Friday event at Riverside Park, children and families can participate in free dance instruction, kid-friendly karaoke, a freestyle dance party and more.

Then, on Saturday, Sept. 19, families can participate FREE in the full Kamloops Arts Council's Children's Arts Festival , featuring more than 35 interactive arts activities and performances at the east end of Riverside Park. One special booth will display artwork made through collaboration with grade three students from Lloyd George Elementary and SKSS senior secondary students.

This year's festival theme is "Animal Kingdom." On Saturday, children can make their own clay animal toothbrush holder and plate, paint henna on boxes and candles, make a bag using a 1920s handcrank sewing machine, learn to draw animal cartoon characters, go on a storybook walk, learn to dance, and much more.

On the Interior Savings Mainstage on Saturday, hosted by B100's Steve Ayres, headliners will include ventriloquist Kellie Haines , interactive characters The Trollsons , magician Clinton W. Gray and Uncle Chris the Clown . Other performers will include the KAC Rivertown Players , Akimbo Dance Studio , and the Kamloops Princesses .

For both days, no pre-registration is necessary, and all activities and performances are free of charge.

The Children's Arts Festival provides artistic, musical and theatrical activities and performances for children ages 2 to 12. The entire event is FREE for children and their families.

This year families will be granted free transit to and from the Saturday event, courtesy of the City of Kamloops. Vouchers will be distributed to elementary schools or can be picked up at the KAC office.
